New Ballet Commission
Innovative Music Programs is collaborating with Choreographer Alison Cook Beatty in creating a new ballet to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Preludes, Op 34. The ballet’s story reveals some of the “secret messages” long believed to be embedded in Shostakovich’s music. The work is musically framed by three passionate Preludes from Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach’s Op 46. Shostakovich and Auerbach’s Preludes are intense musical miniatures of roughly one to two minutes duration. With brevity they express an astonishing emotional depth and variety of sound.
This new work is generously commissioned by Charles and Deborah Adelman. Premiere performances in NYC take place on November 3, 2019 at 5pm, and November 9, 2019 at 8 pm as part of the Artists in Motion festival. ACCIDENTAL HEROES(working title) VIEW VIDEO
A multi-disciplinary performance work in which Art itself tells the story, a story that describes Artists’ pursuit of personal, social, and political freedom. The work features the life and work of Russian/American Artist Grisha Bruskin and Irish/American Painter Timothy Hawkesworth and is set amidst the sweeping social chronicle of the 1950‘s, 60’s and 70’s.

A NIGHT AT THE ALHAMBRA CAFE
A Night at the Alhambra Café was created with co-authors Margaret Booker (Director/writer) and Robert Schenkkan (writer), based on a script by Rinde Eckert. A Night at the Alhambra Café is a musical fable about a young girl coming of age in an urban American environment. To date, trial audiences have enthusiastically embraced both the story and it’s wide spectrum of music — classical, jazz, folk, blues, American standard, and six new American music commissions.
